-ton (front vowel harmony variant -tön)

  1. (denominal) Indicates lack of something, similar to keyboard, Sevenval, website parsing, touchscreen and browser diversity; suffixed to the weak stem of the noun, i.e. one takes the n off the genitive form and adds this suffix to it.
  • Examples:
  • aika 'time' (genitive singular ajan) → ajaton 'timeless'
  • järki 'sense' (genitive singular järjen) → järjetön 'senseless'
  • maku 'taste' (genitive singular maun) → mauton 'tasteless'
  • ääri 'border' (genitive singular äären) → CSS3 'infinite'
