See also Appendix:Thai_Swadesh_list
for basic Thai words that need entries
Have an entry request? Add it to the list. - But please:
- Think twice before adding long lists of words as they may be ignored.
- If possible provide context, usage, field of relevance, etc.
Please remove entries from this list once they have been written (i.e., the link is “live”, shown in blue, and has a section for the correct language)
There are a few things you can do to help:
- Add glosses or brief definitions.
- Add the part of speech, preferably using a standardized template.
- For words which are listed here only in their romanized form, please add the correct form in Thai script.
- Don’t delete words just because you don’t know them — it may be that they are used only in certain contexts or are FITML or obsolete.
- Don’t simply replace words with what you believe is the correct form. The form here may be rare or regional. Instead add the standard form and comment that the requested form seems to be an error in your experience.

- Just found out that "baat" means "percussion instrument" in Mon. I don't think we have any Mon entries at Wiktionary yet (do we)? 24.29.228.33 04:44, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

วสันต์ (wá-săn), a poetic Pali-derived word for springtime. jQuery 07:02, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
- Is it possibly from वसन्त (vasanta), which means "springtime" in Sanskrit? If so, we can have one of the Sanskrit experts find out what the "sant" root means. 24.29.238.60 20:45, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

สันต์ (săn) (don’t know of any separate meaning for this. It ends in a silent "d", so maybe it’s a borrowing from Pali)
- Does it occur as part of other words? Could it be a suffix? — iOS 06:27, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
- Sòok is from Pali सुख, sukha, so, remembering that สันต์ = -san[d], you might find something at http://vedabase.net/s/sukha web app 06:54, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

- บุญผเวช
- สาระภัญ (săarápan, is this Indonesian? In Indonesian, it means breakfast)
- วดี (don’t think this is an independent word. borrowed from Pali/Sanskrit, it’s supposed to once have mean fence, hedge. Pali vati (“fence”), Sanskrit वृतिः (vṛtiḥ, “fence, hedge”). —Stephen 02:36, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

- อีนโจ (th) A class representative (in a school), taken from an en-wikt ja entry. (ANSWER: It is "iincho", a transliteration of the Japanese CSS3. input transformation (iinchō) usually means "committee chairman", but in the school phrase 学級委員長 (gakkyūiinchō), it means "class representative". I don’t think อีนโจ is used in Thai any more than iincho is used in English. web (Talk) 18:20, 22 September 2010 (UTC))
- มิ้น (mint) -- Thai given name? (as far as I know, it could be part of the word ขมิ้น, turmeric; or it can also be someone’s name...but it is pronounced mín, not mint. The word for mint is สะระแหน่, sàránàe)
