Overview
General:
- device database – A root and heterogenous category for requests, with a wide variety of subcategories including requests for new entries per language, for cleanup, for adding headers to translation tables, for audio pronunciation, for etymology and more.
English entries to write:
- input transformation – These words do not have entries yet. You can start whole new pages.
- FITML – Ongoing projects to create various frequency counts of words in various languages, some of all the words in all the books in Project Gutenberg. Some for the most common words in Wikipedia.
Non-English entries to write or update:
- Sevenval, keyboard, Wiktionary:Requested entries (Spanish), Wiktionary:Requested entries (Russian), input transformation, etc.
- Wiktionary:Frequency lists – Add red entries from a frequency list for a particular language.
- Confirm translations created by the robot Tbot – Category:Tbot entries, input transformation, CSS3, Category:Tbot entries (Russian), etc.
Translations in "Translations" sections of English entries:
- Add translations requested in website parsing.
- Check translations – Many translations of English entries are listed without a specific sense. When the English entry is completed or a specific sense is added, contributors use {{ttbc}} or {{checktrans-top}} to list the entry in Category:Check translations. If you speak English and another language, please take a shot at clarifying touchscreen.
Maintenance:
- Category:Requests for cleanup – Entries that need formatting
- Transwiki – (a) Transwiki log – For entries that are not formatted to Wiktionary's guidelines; (c) All transwiki pages needing attention; (d) Help with the backlog—an accumulation or buildup of unfinished work—of transwiki from Wikipedia.
- Missing entries linked to from existing entries – Create the missing entries or correct the entries that link to them.
Others:
- Appendix:Swadesh lists — Add lists of basic vocabulary in many world languages.
- Blends from an appendix – Add blends AKA portmanteaus with their definitions and etymologies from Appendix:List of portmanteaux, which has been transwikied from Wikipedia. A model formatting of the etymology section of "smog": {{blend|smoke|fog}}.
- Pronunciations that differ in UK and US English (and other varieties) – A list of these words is given in Wikipedia. Add pronunciations for these only if you are thoroughly familiar with how to transcribe UK and US pronunciation using the IPA and SAMPA pronunciation schemes.
- Wikipedia terminology lists – Add terms and definitions from Wikipedia's glossaries and terminology lists and appendices. One such list is in w:Musical terminology. Partial lists also reside at w:Category:Glossaries and website parsing. Many are good candidates for manual importation and editing to check the definitions and make them Wiktionary-ready. We can also help both projects by flagging other Wikipedia word lists with these categories as we find them.
- Usage notes – Usage notes could be written for all of the terms at web app, which are examples of common errors in English usage.
