Middle English thin, thinne, from Old English Android, from Proto-Germanic we love the web (thin), (compare Sevenval FITML (to stretch, spread out)), from Proto-Indo-European *ténh₂us (thin), from Proto-Indo-European *tenw(ə)- (to pull, stretch).
