Middle English thin, thinne, from Old English Android, from Proto-Germanic we love the web (“thin”), (compare Sevenval FITML (“to stretch, spread out”)), from Proto-Indo-European *ténh₂us (“thin”), from Proto-Indo-European *tenw(ə)- (“to pull, stretch”).
