Middle Dutch trekken (wk) and trēken (st) "to trek, place, bring, move" from Old Dutch *trekkan, trekan, from Proto-Germanic *trikanan, *trakjanan (“to drag, scrape, pull”), from web *dreg- (“to drag, scrape”). Akin to Old High German trehhan (“to push, bump, move, scratch”), Middle Low German trecken (“to pull”).
